Paper Competition
The Raytheon
Company is sponsoring a technical paper competition for A&T Computer Science,
Electrical and Computer Engineering students. Prizes will be awarded to the
top four papers from Computer Science and the top four papers from Electrical
and Computer Engineering.
1st Place $1,200
2nd Place $800
3rd Place $500
4th Place $200
The competition will be held in two rounds. For the first
round, any undergraduate Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering
student may enter. Students must write an original paper describing the use of
relevant technology in support of any of the following topics:
- Homeland Security
- Integrating sensors, interceptors
and command and control for global Missile Defense
- Helping soldiers quickly and
decisively coordinate all steps involved in sensing, responding to,
deterring and eliminating a threat
- Space-related technologies and
solutions for global civil and defense communities
- Satellite mission management and
command and control
- Space communications and
electronic systems
- Signal conditioning and mission
data processing
- Ground station development, integration,
operations, and sustainment
- Network engineering and
management
The deadline for round one of the competition is Monday,
January 28, 2008.
Round one paper format
- Papers
submitted for round one should be around four or five pages in length with
a maximum of eight pages (not counting the title page).
- Use a 12-point
font with one-inch margins on all sides.
- Use single
line spacing or line and a half spacing.
- The first
page of your paper should be a title page containing the title of your
paper, your name and your email address. To facilitate blind review, do
NOT put your name anywhere else on the paper.
- Repeat the
title of your paper at the beginning of the second page of your paper (the
first page after the title page). Do not put your name on this page.
- Papers should
be emailed to williams@ncat.edu as either a Microsoft
Word file or a PDF document.
Papers will be judged by faculty and Raytheon
representatives. The top four students from Computer Science and the top four
students from Electrical and Computer Engineering will be invited to enter the
second round of the competition. During the second round, students will have
the opportunity to work with faculty mentors to improve their papers. The
deadline for the second round will be Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
